Psychological and pedagogical methods of developing the creative potential of students in children's art schools

The article is dedicated to examining the issue of psychological and pedagogical methods for preparing children for artistic and creative activities in an academic art school, based on age-related individual characteristics. The role of the academic art school in the de-
velopment of children's artistic abilities is discussed. The age characteristics of children from 7 to 10 years old and their influence on artistic and creative activities are highlighted. Teaching young schoolchildren methods of adequate self-assessment of their creative works is presented as an important task for teachers. It is noted that the development of realistic self-assessment is an important aspect of successful learning in children's art schools. One of the tools for achieving realistic self-assessment – the review – is discussed. The tool is conducted in every lesson regardless of the stage of work or the complexity of the task. The features of «proper vision» of artistic images are also highlighted.
